The ideal family area

There is hardly a point in the Ionian Sea that is more than 30 nautical miles from a sheltered port. The area offers ideal weather conditions for a relaxing family trip. In summer there is usually the “Maistro”, a fair-weather wind from the north-west, combined with stable high pressure. It sets in in the late morning and hardly reaches more than 5 Beaufort in the afternoon, only to fall asleep again at sunset. Unlike the “Meltemi” of the Aegean, the wind and weather in the Ionian Sea are rarely a cause for concern. The Ionian Islands lie parallel to the mainland coast and offer good protection from wind and swell on their lee side in choppy weather – ideal for relaxing sailing under the sun of Homer, in the footsteps of Odysseus.
